BCW Index Down 1 Percent for the Week

The BCW Index dropped 1 percent for the five-day tracking period ended Tuesday. In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index gained 1.4 percent, the broader Nasdaq nudged up a paltry .1 percent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average eked out a .6 percent gain for the same tracking period.

The Index's biggest decliner for the week was Invitrogen, whose shares sank 3 percent. The company announced a $300 million senior convertible notes offering on Monday after the market closed, and its stock dropped nearly 4 percent the next day (The firm subsequently announced the sale of $325 million of the notes). The biggest increase among Index companies belonged to Bruker BioSciences, whose shares rose 2.66 percent, or 11 cents, for the week.
