Big Loss for Invitrogen Offsets Big Gain for Bruker

Shares in Bruker BioSciences rose 7.8 percent for the trading period ended Tuesday, leading all gainers in the BCW Index. Most of the gain for Bruker's shares came on Tuesday, following the firm's announcement that it would acquire affiliated company Bruker Optics.

Meanwhile, Invitrogen led all four decliners in the Index with a 7.4-percent drop for the tracking period. The fall was due to the firm's announcement that its first-quarter revenue came up short of expectations.

Overall, the Index gained 1.05 percent, trailing all three comparator indices. The Nasdaq gained 1.98 percent for the five-day trading period ended Tuesday, while the Nasdaq Biotech Index rose 3.35 percent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 1.62 percent.
