NEW YORK, May 3 (GenomeWeb News) - Shares in Beckman Coulter were up 5.78 percent, or $3.04, at $55.61 in mid-afrernoon trade after the company reported a 27-percent jump in first-quarter profit.
As GenomeWeb News reported this morning, Beckman said revenues for the three months ended March 31 declined 1.2 percent to $560 million from the $576 million year over year.
Profits for the period surged to $41.4 million from $32.6 million in the year-ago period.
Beckman said it expects second-quarter revenue to be between $620 million and $645 million, which would be improvements of between .3 percent and 4.4 percent above the $618.8 million the company posted for the second quarter last year.
