BCW Index Starts Second Half Strongly; Millipore Added

The BCW Index has started the second half of 2006 strongly with a gain of 3.4 percent for the shortened trading week ended Monday. The Nasdaq Biotech Index outpaced the BCW Index, climbing 5.2 percent, while the Nasdaq gained 4.3 percent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.8 percent. Every stock in the Index gained ground for the tracking period, with Stratagene leading the way with a rise of 12.7 percent. Qiagen and Fisher Scientific both rose more than 6 percent for the week.

Starting this week, Millipore has been added to the Index and will receive regular coverage in BioCommerce Week. The firm is in the process of acquiring Serologicals. After listing its capital equipment business as discontinued operations, Harvard Bioscience has been dropped from the Index.
