The BCW Index gained 1.2 percent for the week ended Tuesday, rising along with tech stocks in the Nasdaq and the Nasdaq Biotech Index. The Nasdaq rose 1.3 percent and the Nasdaq Biotech Index rose 1.7 percent for the tracking period, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed .7 percent.
Stocks for 13 of the 16 companies in the Index gained ground for the week, led by Fisher Scientific, which rose 5.1 percent. Thermo Electron and Bruker Biosciences gained 4.7 percent and 4.4 percent, respectively.
Qiagen led decliners with a fall of 4 percent for the week. The firm was recently cited with a warning letter from the US Food and Drug Administration, which appeared on the agency’s website early this week (see related Brief).
