BCW Index Posts Modest Gain Led By Bruker

Shares in Bruker Biosciences rose 5.8 percent for the trading week ended Tuesday to lead the BCW Index to a modest gain. The firm did not report any news and trading volume was slightly lower than average for the week. Stratagene led decliners with a 4.5-percent drop for the tracking period. The firm announced last week that it had posted a $21-million bond to secure damages in its legal dispute with Third Wave Technologies (see Briefs).

Overall, the Index closed up .3 percent for the week, trailing the Nasdaq, which rose 1.8 percent, the Nasdaq Biotech Index, which gained 1.7 percent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which climbed 1.4 percent.
