BCW Index Gains 2 Percent Amid Rise in Tech Stocks

The BCW Index gained 2 percent for the week ended Tuesday, as 15 of the 16 companies in the Index either gained ground or were flat for the period. The upswing was consistent with gains realized by tech stocks during the week.
 
Bruker Biosciences led gainers with a 5-percent increase, followed by PerkinElmer, which rose 4.4 percent. The only firm in the Index to lose ground for the trading period was Stratagene, whose shares dropped 8.5 percent.
 
The BCW Index was outdone by the Nasdaq Biotech Index and the broader Nasdaq market, which rose 5.2 percent and 3.2 percent, respectively. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.2 percent for the week.
