Aventis Unit Says Saccharopolyspora erythraea Genome Sequenced

NEW YORK, March 8 (GenomeWeb News) - Aventis Bulk, an Italian unit of French drug maker Aventis, said today that it has sequenced the entire Saccharopolyspora erythraea genome. The company said the strain is an industrial overproducer of the antibiotic erythromycin.


The sequencing effort, said Aventis Bulk, was done in collaboration with MWG Biotech, and is part of a major research program supported by the Italian Ministry of Research.


The sequenced genome is the property of Aventis Bulk, the company noted.
