NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Singapore's Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*Star) today announced it is collaborating with Nutricia Research to investigate the effects of nutrition on the gut microbiome.
A*Star's Genome Institute of Singapore said that with Nutricia it will research the health benefits of prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics in an effort to better understand how nutrition supports the microbiome in early life and how to better prevent diseases later in life.
GIS will perform genomic analyses as part of the collaboration, while Nutricia will conduct two nutritional clinical studies. The Netherlands-based company is part of Danone.
"This collaboration will allow us to use our expanding expertise in metagenomics to develop a molecular understanding of any benefits associated with healthy microbes," Martin Hibberd, senior group leader of the GIS microbial groupings, said in a statement.
