Affy Names Four New Service Firms to Embolden Market Stance in Japan

NEW YORK, May 8 - Affymetrix Japan, a wholly owned subsidiary of Affymetrix, has chosen four companies to be authorized service providers for its customers in Japan:

Beginning June 1, BioMatrix Laboratories, Kurabo Industries, Mitsubishi Chemical Safety Institute, and Takara Bio will offer customer services that include scanning and analyzing data from Affy GeneChips, and providing technical support for the instruments.

These partnerships "will make GeneChip technology more accessible to its academic and industrial customers, and help forge closer working relationships with the broader Japanese scientific community," said Sadashi Suzuki, general manager of Tokyo-based Affymetrix Japan.

There are currently more that 100 GeneChip systems in Japan, according to Suzuki.
