ABI's Shares Rise on Q3 Revenue Growth

Applied Biosystems’ shares rose 11.3 percent for the trading week ended Tuesday to lead all stocks in the BCW Index. The firm’s stock rose following the release of its third-quarter results, which showed a 15-percent gain in revenue (see BioCommerce Week 10/25/2006). PerkinElmer’s stock gained 7.6 percent for the week, and Bruker Biosciences rose 6.1 percent.
 
Invitrogen’s shares sank 11 percent for the week, following lackluster third-quarter results. The firm’s shares were also downgraded by two investment banks (see related article).
 
Overall, the Index dropped .7 percent for the tracking period. In comparison, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell .4 percent, the Nasdaq gained .9 percent, and the Nasdaq Biotech Index rose 1.8 percent.
