Abbott, Promega Collaborate on RNA Sample Prep

NEW YORK, May 19 - Abbott Laboratories and Promega said today that they would collaborate on RNA extraction products for molecular diagnostics labs.

The companies will co-develop a system to purify and extract viral RNA from patient samples using Abbott's magnetic particle technology. The system will be manufactured by Promega and distributed by Abbott.

The RNA extraction system will be used in Abbott's m1000, an automated sample preparation system for molecular diagnostics that will be introduced later this year, Abbott said.
