Abbott to Distribute Luminex MDx's Respiratory Panel Worldwide

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Abbott will be the sole distributor of Luminex Molecular Diagnostics’ respiratory viral panel outside of the United States, Luminex said today.

Under the agreement, Abbott will have exclusive rights to distribute the xTAG RVP outside of the US and semi-exclusive rights within the US, Luminex said.

The xTAG received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration in January 2008, and it was CE marked for sale in Europe in November 2006.

In the US, the xTAG has been cleared to detect 12 viruses, including adenovirus, rhinovirus, and a number of major influenza strains, including all subtypes of influenza A and influenza B. In Europe, it has been cleared to detect 20 viruses and viral subtypes, including several strains of coronavirus, as well as SARS, enterovirus, and influenza.

Financial terms of the agreement were not released.
