Regulation and Function of miR-218 in Gastric Cancer Metastasis
Tie, Pan et al., PLoS Genetics
Researchers describe a negative feedback system between Robo1, a Slit receptor, and miR-218, wherein “decreased miR-218 levels eliminate Robo1 repression, which activates the Slit-Robo1 pathway through the interaction between Robo1 and Slit2, thus triggering tumor metastasis.” The authors suggest that the restoration of miR-218 supresses Robo1 espression and inhibits tumor cell invasion.
Complete Genomics to Offer $5,000 Human Genome as a Service Business in Q2 2009
For the last two years, the company has been developing a short-read sequencing-by-probe-ligation technology behind closed doors. It sequenced a HapMap sample this summer but has not made the results public. In the coming months, Complete Genomics plans to do five more genomes for its first customer and partner, the Institute for Systems Biology. Next year, the firm intends to sequence 1,000 genomes, followed by 20,000 in 2010.
