Never Too Young to Vie for Grant Funding

The Boston Globe reports on student participants in the Siemens Competition, an annual program that gives two prizes of $100,000 to high school students who are up-and-coming scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. Among the competitors are kids working on diabetes research in hepatitis patients, mapping the spread and mutations of avian flu, and designing a urine test to screen for colon cancer. And they're serious about the work, too: at least one of the students interviewed by the Globe has already won an NIH grant to support the research.
