Helicos Human Genome Paper Raises Questions About Cost Savings, Potential Applications of Technology
Some have questioned the paper's claim that it takes "at least 35-40 machine runs with many instruments operating in parallel" and reagent costs of a quarter to a half a million dollars to sequence a human genome on other instruments.
