OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
A key contributor in the Screening group within the Center for the Development of Therapeutics, optimizes and implements small-molecule screening projects producing high quality data relating to the disease biology interests of the Broad Institute. Plays a role optimizing assay automation, increasing throughput and data quality. Works as part of an integrated team to guide projects through assay development, HTS, secondary assays and small molecule probe optimization.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- Supports projects in a matrix team environment.
- Working with the project lead, adapts assay to automation and implements robust diverse phenotypic (including high-content) and target-based biochemical high throughput screens using a modular, highly integrated screening production platform.
- Implements 1536-well format for both cell-based and biochemical assays, as appropriate.
- Applies HTS performance criteria to determine statistical significance of the data and identify hits for confirmation by retesting at dose.
- Optimizes and implements some counter screens and secondary assays using automated screening systems for assessment of mechanism and selectivity issues.
- Participates in new technology evaluation, development and implementation to keep production platform current as screening technology advances.
- Reports project results to project team, prepares results for presentation at meetings, and participates in grant and manuscript writing.

- BS or MS in cell biology or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of drug discovery experience (6 years for BS) in a high throughput environment
- Must have experience with mammalian cell culture (e.g. cell lines, primary cells, iPS derived cells).
- Hands-on experience with assay development and automation, particularly cell-based is required.
- Must have experience with assay validation and fully automated high throughput screening.
- Experience with robotics, standard assay detection methods, electronic notebook (ELN) and high volume data is a must.
- Experience with 1536-well format is a plus.
- Must have the ability to analyze screening data, interpret results and present to departmental leadership and external collaborators
- Must have the ability to interact with an interdisciplinary group including engineers, data analysts, laboratory biologists, computer scientists and chemists.
- Excellent oral, written, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills required, together with a “can-do” attitude and enthusiasm for working in a matrix team environment.
