Open position in Plant Genomics at MTT Agrifood Research Finland
MTT Agrifood Research Finland is a leading research institute in Finland developing sustainability and competitiveness of the food system (http://www.mtt.fi/english). Operating under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, MTT employs around 750 people at 15 locations across Finland. A permanent position for carrying out research in the field of plant genomics and genetic resources is available at MTT Agrifood Research Finland (further Natural Resources Institute Finland in 2015*) in Jokioinen.
The principal researcher will join the Genetics Group of the Biotechnology and Food Research Unit, and work mainly with plant researchers in the Genomic Diversity team. The main research focus of the team is on using genomics tools in plant breeding, genetic diversity, and gene isolation. One goal of plant research is to widen it to new applications in the field of bio economy.
The researcher will be responsible for applying the methods of genomics as well as forward and reverse genetics to understanding and improving the traits of crop plants needed for present and future Nordic conditions. The person should especially develop and implement new methods for DNA marker, genomic, and diversity analyses, and write scientific articles and funding applications.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in biotechnology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics, plant breeding, crop science, horticultural science, or appropriate related discipline. Excellent knowledge and experience of working with plants and/or plant genetic resources and with DNA marker, sequence, and genomics data are essential. In addition, knowledge of project management, good ability in developing and maintaining customer relationships, and evidence of successful funding initiatives are required. Excellent language skills in written and oral English and abilities to co-operate with other researchers are necessary. Knowledge of statistics, bioinformatics, or programming is considered advantageous.

The salary will be based on the job grade level 14 and personal work performance, where the base salary will be 3275,50 € and the additional personal amount at most 46 % of the base salary.
