The Bioinformatics Scientist is responsible for developing algorithms and performing data mining for molecular biology experiments. The ideal candidate must be able to work in a collaborative research environment and be able to provide evidence of relevant research expertise in the form of presentations, software, technical publications, and/or knowledge of applications.
Perform statistical analysis on NGS data including SNP calling, structural variant calling, and indel analyses.
Participate in the design and development of analysis pipeline running on a local or cloud-based cluster.
Monitor and troubleshoot analysis pipeline in a HPC environment.
Develop scripts to extract results from instrument-generated files and to store data in a database.
Work closely with other bioinformatics scientists to provide access to data from instruments and analysis.
Provide reports and analysis information to management to aid in decision making on the development of new products.
PhD degree in Computational Biology/Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field.
Minimum of 6 years work experience with at least 3 years in a biotechnology setting.
Proficient in biological sequence analysis and analysis of next-generation sequencing data.
Strong knowledge of human genetics.
Proficient in programming with Java.
Proficient in data analyses in R environment.
Demonstrated strong programming/scripting skills in Linux Shell and Perl.
Experience with SQL and interacting with relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server).
Good understanding of software development processes.
Strong writing, organization and communication skills.
