The Bioinformatics Director will oversees the design, development, and implementation of high performance innovative bioinformatics workflows and provide technical leadership and supervision of a multidisciplinary team.
Develop and implement vision for bioinformatics scientists to support research & development, pre-clinical, and clinical data analysis.
Lead statistical and bioinformatic analyses of experimental data produced by next generation sequencing systems, real-time or quantitative PCR, and mass spectrometry instrumention. Conduct data mining over internally-produced and public genomics data set. Integrate data from diverse sources.
Direct development and support of a high performance data analysis pipelines.
Direct bioinformatics support for Sequenom Laboratories commercially available molecular diagnostics.
Provide analytic support to aid in decision making in the development of new laboratory developed tests.
Work with regulatory bodies and standards organizations to help define standards for the clinical lab environment.
Manage staff including recruiting, hiring, motivating, performance management, training and development.
PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science, or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience with at least 2 years in a biotechnology setting.
Proficient in biological sequence data and statistical analysis.
Proficiency in statistical computing and graphics using R (preferred), Swith at least one of the following high level programming languages: R/S-PLUS (preferred), Matlab.
Programming expertice in object-oriented programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++. Scripting expertice using shell- or perl-scrpting is also required.
Experience with relational SQL database systems, such as Oracle RDBMS, Microsoft SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
Experience with Laboratory Developed Tests (LDT).
Experience with development and deployment of robust and modular analytical pipelines for a production clinical lab.
Knowledge of high-performance computing and cloud-computing technologies.
