High Throughput Bioinformatician

Grade 7: £29,837 - £36,661p.a. with a discretionary range to £40,046p.a.
Applications are invited for a High Throughput Bioinformatician to join the Bioinformatics and Statistical Genetics Core (BSG) at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics.
We are looking for a High Throughput Bioinformatician to lead the continued development of our computational pipelines for the analysis of next-generation sequencing data. You will focus primarily on DNA sequencing applications, including whole-genome, exome and targeted gene panels. Where appropriate, you will contribute to the development of novel methods and algorithms to ensure the best quality analysis is delivered. You will also perform hands-on analysis of sequence data and will be engaged in collaborative research projects within the Centre and beyond, potentially resulting in high profile publications. You will have the opportunity to develop your own research interests in areas related to the Centre's activities.
You will have an MSc or higher degree in Bioinformatics or another related or quantitative discipline with excellent programming and scripting skills. You will have demonstrable research experience in bioinformatics and proven ability to deliver high-quality scientific outputs. It is essential that you have experience in handling large-scale datasets. You will also have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to interact and communicate with colleagues with a wide variety of backgrounds.
The position is fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance and funded by the Wellcome Trust.
