About This Position
A successful candidate will join Avitide’s Affinity Ligand Discovery team to develop innovative purification solutions to accelerate our partner’s clinical biopharmaceutical pipeline. Critical responsibilities include the design, development and execution of discovery methods and engineering novel ligands for biopharmaceutical purification. The candidate will provide foundational expertise in genetic library construction, display and selection methodologies, and technical leadership to peptide and protein engineering initiatives within Avitide’s platform affinity purification technology workflows. Avitide seeks candidates who are highly self-motivated and can work in a collaborative fashion with other interdisciplinary team members in a fast-paced and exciting work environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
Extensive experience with phage, yeast, ribosomal, or other display technology for protein engineering and/or peptide/protein discovery applications
Strong experience in the design, development, and construction of genetic libraries to improve binding affinity, selectivity, or physical characteristics of binding molecules
Degree (BS/MS/PhD) in biological sciences, biochemistry, or engineering
BS 10+ years/MS 7+ years/PhD 4+ years of industrial experience in a protein engineering or antibody/binding-scaffold discovery research laboratory setting
Demonstrated history of strong hands-on ability, problem solving, and independent experimental design and execution
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and optimize peptide/protein libraries and methods for the discovery of biopharmaceutical purification ligands.
Develop and engineer novel binding molecules for purposes of biopharmaceutical affinity purification
Design, develop, and execute analytical assays to assess discovery methodologies and ligand function
Work closely with the Ligand Discovery and High-throughput Production teams to rapidly identify affinity purification leads
Depth of experience in molecular biology and protein engineering methodologies
Strong structure-activity knowledge as it pertains to peptide or protein binding molecules
NGS and bioinformatic analysis experience highly desirable
Experience in managing multiple parallel discovery projects
