Job Description: 

As a member of the Systems Engineering team, the individual would employ analytical methods to evaluate and direct the design of innovative DNA sequencing products. This includes the generation of sub-system models; development of a robust end-to-end system simulation; statistical analysis of empirical data and sensitivity analyses of design options.
The position involves a high degree of interaction with many diverse technical groups including effectively identifying, reporting on and representing key design sensitivities; presenting to technical peers & upper management as well as defining and justifying design requirements.

• Developing, implementing, validating, and applying physics-based system-level models for design simulations of a broad array of processes (photonic, optical, sensors, chemical and engineering systems)
• Parameter estimation and statistical analysis of empirical data to support simulation activity
• Executing rigorous data and sensitivity analysis investigations in support of the company’s scientific goals, including modeling of errors and performance
• Building, updating and supporting software tools for implementing and running simulations in a production-grade environment
• Producing production grade software solutions adhering to company standards and practices
• Integrating and extending computing architectures for multi-functional simulations
• Successfully work within a challenging and extremely multi-disciplinary environment
• Generate analytical reports and present to professional peers and upper management
• Define and justify technical requirements
• Strong and effective inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff


• Demonstrated ability to build predictive, physical models at the system level and implement these to influence design decisions
• Experience with Matlab/R/SciPy for algorithm development and statistical analysis as well as fluency in object-oriented languages (C#, C++, Java) required. Experience with dynamic languages (Perl, Python, Ruby, Lua) desired
• Experience developing production grade software based on detailed specifications and utilizing unit test and functional test methodologies desired
• In depth exposure to any of the following disciplines highly desired: optics, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics, stochastic processes, statistical analysis, molecular biology, state and parameter estimation, error budgeting, design of experiments, probability
• Candidate should have experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, technically challenging environment
• Proven ability to take the initiative to drive the design and influence highly technical and cross-functional teams without formal authority
• PhD level education preferred although Masters with relevant experience considered
