This position is for a full time Research Technician in the Laboratory of Dr. Peter W. Laird. This individual will be instrumental in transitioning the lab, currently located in Los Angeles, CA at the University of Southern California (USC) to Grand Rapids, MI to Van Andel Research Institute.
Since a major initial responsibility of this individual will be to assist in the transfer of laboratory expertise from the University of Southern California to the Van Andel Research Institute, we are seeking an experienced individual with broad molecular biology expertise and strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
The successful candidate will be involved in research to develop a detailed understanding of the molecular basis of human disease, with a particular emphasis on epigenetics in cancer.
This individual will be responsible for performing standard molecular biology research procedures, recording and reporting on the results and data obtained. Depending on the level of experience of the candidate, laboratory organization and management responsibilities may also be considered.
The ideal candidate would be an experienced high-level molecular biology technician with experience including, but not limited to:
*Agarose Gel Electrophoresis
*Mammalian Cell Culture
*Mammalian Cell Transfections, Selection, Reporter Assays
Other techniques which this individual will be expected to partake in:
*Other Molecular Biology Techniques
The person does not have to have extensive experience working with mice, but does need to be willing to learn and work with mice. Individuals with this experience will be given strong consideration.
This individual will be required to travel to Los Angeles for a time period to be determined, where they will help facilitate the transition of the lab from USC to VARI in Grand Rapids, MI.
The person must have at least a B.Sc. degree in biological sciences, preferably in molecular biology.
2-5 years of biological science related experience, preferably conducting bench research
Familiarity with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Needs to be competent in multi-tasking
