Director, Gene Targeting and Transgenic Mouse Core Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has an opening for a Ph.D. level scientist to oversee the Gene Targeting Shared Resource. This Shared Resource provides expertise in the construction and management of genetically modified mouse strains. Services provided include gene targeting in mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells, generation of ES cell-derived chimeras via blastocyst injection, production of ES cell-derived mice by tetraploid blastocyst injection, the generation of transgenic mice by pronuclear injection of plasmid/BAC constructs, karyotyping, and cryopreservation. This Shared Resource has been used to generate a variety of genetically defined mouse models of human diseases, primarily cancer and neurological disorders. These models are being used to understand the onset and progression of the diseases, to predict response to drug treatment, and to test novel drugs and treatment strategies. Many of these models take advantage of shRNA technologies for control of target gene expression.
The Gene Targeting Shared Resource Director will manage the day-to-day operations of the Gene Targeting Shared Resource as well as participate in experimental design and technical procedures. The director will also be responsible for developing new techniques and protocols to introduce into the Shared Resource, including the establishment and maintenance of quality control criteria for all services.
