Job Description: 

We are looking for a self-motivated scientist, capable of undertaking projects independently, to join our applications team on a permanent basis. The Application Scientist’s objective will be the development of applications for Avacta Analytical’s Optim range of instruments, as co-ordinated by the Head of Applications and Product Development Manager. The role will include the creation of scientific and technical literature in the form of internal marketing collateral, scientific publications, posters and presentations.

Your main duties will include:
•Development of experimental protocols, preparation of samples and acquisition of data on Optim and other instruments.
•Processing and interpretation of spectroscopic and biophysical data from biological systems (typically proteins).
•Preparation of scientific materials suitable for release as application notes, submission to peer review journals, or as conference materials such as posters and presentations.
•Production of material suitable for aiding the provision of training.
•Provision of application support and training for new and existing customers.
•Aiding the business development team by providing technical input during the sales process and by performing demonstration experiments, both at Avacta or at a customer site if necessary.

Essential attributes:
•Degree in Biosciences or a related science.
•At least three years lab experience (either in industry or as part of a PhD).
•Experience of acquiring and analysing analytical data.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable attributes:
•Postgraduate degree.
•Knowledge and experience of protein biochemistry.
•Demonstrable scientific credibility.
•Good organisational capabilities.
•Ability to work independently.
•Willingness to travel.
