Scientist Cloning and Production Optimization

At Gen9, we are transforming Synthetic Biology through our high-volume, automated next generation synthesis of DNA constructs and libraries. We are looking for an experienced candidate possessing the right combination of molecular biology expertise, manufacturing and automation experience, and can-do attitude to join our rapidly growing team.
• Will be responsible for continuing the rapid expansion of the custom vector and cloning services offered through Gen9's manufacturing including:
o Working closely with Customer Support group and customers for qualification of new custom vectors into production
o Expansion of catalog vector product offerings
o Quality, yield and cost improvement initiatives
o Development and implementation of a technology transfer process for new cloning and sequencing technologies to ensure that new vector product offerings are immediately reproducible resulting in highest yields and quality of DNA constructs
• Sustain and continuously improve owned processes through manufacturing best practices.
• Play a key role in the transfer, validation and implementation of new processes and products into manufacturing.
• Lead failure analysis and troubleshooting activities through methodologies like six-sigma.
• Flexibility to provide support across all shifts on an as-needed basis.


• MS or PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Biomedical Engineering with 5+ years of hands-on experience in high-throughput manufacturing or core lab environment.
• Demonstrated expertise of standard molecular biology protocols with emphasis on vector manipulation and cloning techniques and a deep understanding of related reagents.
• Experience with automated fluid handling platforms.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with customers, suppliers, fellow employees, and senior management.
• Demonstrated use of SPC, DOE, and Failure Analysis techniques.
• Ability to work independently and as part of team in a fluid, fast-paced environment.
• Exposure to Six-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing a plus
