System Specialist II, Oncology Biomarker Development


The Oncology Biomarker Development (OBD) department seeks a motivated and highly organized system specialist to support the development of oncology therapeutics and companion diagnostics by managing the acquisition, storage and retrieval of data sets obtained from clinical studies. The incumbent is expected to leverage extensive computing infrastructure to build and maintain standardized processes and pipelines for collection and quality control of large data sets generated by state-of-the-art, molecular biomarker analysis platforms. Other responsibilities include development of software tools to clean and format data files; design, testing and documentation of user interfaces for data upload, retrieval and sharing; and evaluation of systems to accommodate ongoing data management needs. The successful candidate will work extensively with biomarker scientists, research associates and biosample operations managers within OBD, and will collaborate frequently with clinical scientists, statisticians and database specialists across the company.

The position requires a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent work experience) in Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or Computer Science plus at least six years of experience in the pharmaceutical or diagnostics industry. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of accomplishments in the management or analysis of clinical study data, with a desire to apply this knowledge to existing and new scientific challenges. A demonstrated understanding of clinical trial data standards and experience working with CROs is required. Knowledge of the UNIX operating system, a scripting language (e.g., Perl or Python), and a statistical programming environment (e.g., R or S-PLUS) is a must. Familiarity with LIMS systems, relational databases, data visualization tools (e.g., Spotfire) and prior experience analyzing biomarker data are desired. The candidate will have knowledge of basic scientific principles and the pharmaceutical or diagnostic development process. The individual must be a great team player with strong organizational and communication skills combined with patience, persistence and careful attention to detail.
