The UCI/Hutchinson Center Cancer Alliance is a collaboration between the Vaccine and Infectious Disease (VIDD) division and the Uganda Cancer Institute to research the 22 percent of cancers worldwide that are caused by infections, to help treat and prevent those cancers, and to train Ugandan doctors in these areas, and is seeking a Grant and Contract Coordinator to join their team. The Grant and Contract Coordinator will assist with the collection, preparation, analysis, and reporting of financial data and in the application for and administration of sponsored and non-sponsored research project funds.

The incumbent works with minimal supervision and is expected to use initiative and sound judgment in carrying out responsibilities within the framework of departmental policies and procedures.

- Regular and timely budget-to-actual reporting to senior management and investigation and analysis of variances at a project level.
- Work in conjunction with the Deputy Director in ongoing detailed analysis of financial performance and forecasts for the Program.
- Manage the Program's grant and contract funds, including but not limited to order approvals, cost transfers, and maintaining updated spending projections.
- Provide guidance to Program staff on standard financial practices and Center/program financial policies and procedures as needed.
- Develop a thorough understanding of PeopleSoft/Crystal Reports reporting tools and create new reports and tools in alternate programs (i.e. Microsoft Excel) as needed.
- Prepare clinical trial and other required sponsor invoices and back-up for submission, and ensure timely payment in accordance with the agreement(s).
- Prepare grant applications for submission for the Program's Research Investigators.
- Perform other clerical and financial assignments and projects as needed.
- Support Deputy Director with other assignments as needed.

- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
- Minimum of two years experience in NIH and Foundation grant application compilation and submission.
- Minimum of two years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a research or not-for-profit environment.
- Strong analytical skills with extreme attention to detail.
- Experience with QuickBooks and SharePoint preferred.
- Working knowledge of financial reporting and related operational statistics.
- Ability to develop and perform complex calculations in Microsoft Excel.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to understand complex problems, to collaborate and explore alternative solutions. Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology.
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects and communicate status of projects to key decision makers on a proactive basis.
