The Jovinge Group is building a Cardiovascular Research Program, a joint program of excellence established by Spectrum Health Frederik Meijer Heart & Vascular Institute and Van Andel Research Institute (“VARI”) in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Based on trail-blazing research in endogenous cardiac regeneration, the Cardiovascular Research Program will serve as a role model for local, national and international research initiatives, with the vision of bringing novel treatments to the patient population and enhancing the lives of individuals around the world.
The Jovinge Group is seeking a Senior Research Technician to be part of our research team. The Senior Research Technician will focus on cell culture work involving mouse, human, and other cell lines. The Jovinge Group has two main research objectives; to unravel cardiac progenitors during both development stages and in adults for regenerative therapies in the heart and to identify the source and mechanisms of inherent adult generation of caridomyocytes in the human heart.
The Senior Research Technician will report to the Principal Investigator in conducting cell culture reprogramming experiments and ensuring that the cell culture facilities are operating in accordance to the appropriate safety and quality standards.
Some key areas of responsibility include:
* Manage and participate in the day-to-day operational activities of the cell culture facilities in support of research focused on stem cells, progenitors, and of the reprogramming of cells.
* Will involve hands on cell reprogramming and work with induced Pluripotent Stem Cell technologies.
* Conducting routine cell culture experiments as well as enhancing new cell culture techniques including clonal assays.
* Mentoring and educating other technicians in cell culture and cell reprogramming techniques.
