The Department of Experimental and Health Sciences (DCEXS, www.upf.edu/cexs/) of the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF, www.upf.edu), located at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB, www.prbb.org), is a leading institute in biomedical research. The PRBB also hosts other institutions such as the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG, www.crg.eu), the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM, www.imim.es) or the Center of Regenerative Medicine in Barcelona (CMRB, www.cmrb.eu), in an international and collaborative scientific environment. Research at the DCEXS, and in the PRBB in general, is supported by ten state-of-the-art core facilities including genomics, proteomics, advanced light microscopy, protein technologies, and FACS.
The DCEXS is looking for candidates to fill the post of Head of the Genomics Core Facility and UPF Core Facilities Coordinator
The Genomics Core (Servei de Genòmica) is one of the ten Core Facilities at the PRBB. It was created in 1999 to support the scientific community in studies involving DNA or RNA sequencing. It regularly has more than 500 users per year, with services ranging from Sanger sequencing and Real-Time PCR to 2nd generation sequencing at small/medium scale (with MiSeq and 454 GS junior devices).
The mission of the Head of the Genomics Core Facility will be to scientifically, technologically and administratively manage the facility and its personnel to it. Daily operational tasks include discussion with scientists, project planning and budget management. The Genomics Head is also expected to organize a training curriculum, and to offer tutorials and courses to the scientific community. It is the Head’s responsibility to ensure that the services offered by the facility are kept state-of-the-art, to ensure efficient use of resources, and to define a strategy for new application developments based on the scientific orientation and future requirements of the DCEXS in the PRBB context. Additionally, and in liaison with the CRG Head of Core Facilities, the Genomics Head may act as Coordinator of UPF's duties in the rest of facilities to which the DCEXS contributes, unless some other Head is appointed to do so.
We are seeking a scientist with deep knowledge and experience in genomics, particularly in molecular genetics and medium/high throughput technologies for DNA SNP genotyping and sequencing. The ideal candidate should have a Biology background and working Bioinformatics skills.
