Job Description: 

The Jackson Laboratory of Genomic Medicine in Farmington, CT is seeking an Associate Director, Technology Transfer. This role functions as the senior manager of technology licensing, marketing and IP related business development, including research related industry liaison. The Associate Director, Technology Transfer will be responsible for technology opportunity project/case management covering all aspects of technology transfer as well as identifying valuable technologies.
Responsibilities:
• Evaluates technologies for commercial potential
• Promotes protection of intellectual property; acts as liaison between inventors and patent counsel
• Identifies and develops opportunities for commercializing technology through licensing, collaborative ventures and start-ups
• Identifies and develops research funding opportunities
• Evaluates, negotiates and approves confidentiality agreements, inter institutional and material transfer agreements
• With direction from the General Counsel, represents The Jackson Laboratory in negotiations of research and license agreements
• License maintenance and audit

Requirements: 

• PhD in the biomedical sciences. Business or law degree or relevant work experiences an asset.
• At least five years’ experience in Technology Transfer from a research setting, including demonstrated successful experience negotiating and drafting research collaborations, licenses, material transfers and confidentiality agreements.
• Experience with the US and international patent systems and prosecution, working with external patent and legal counsel. Patent agent or attorney registration an asset.
• Familiarity with the grant funded academic research environment and key relevant NIH and institutional policies, including an understanding of the rights and obligations associated with NIH funded research under the Bayh-Dole Act.
• Experience in building relationships between industry and academic research.
• Solid understanding of genetics and genetic engineering. Experience in translational medicine an asset.
• Strong written and verbal communication, negotiating, and data organizational skills.
• Familiar with the use, development and management of IT based data management.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple complex projects.
