Under supervision of the lab director, performs routine molecular genetic laboratory procedures to support clinical molecular diagnostics. Follows established procedures to perform routine DNA-based testing. Utilizes automated equipment and computerized instruments capable of performing a number of tests simultaneously. Analyzes results and relays them to Translational Software after testing and examining specimens. Records and maintains patient results and related data. Assists with quality control measures such as daily, weekly and monthly checks of laboratory equipment, temperature control, documentation of quality improvement projects, and daily maintenance of laboratory equipment according to established guidelines. May provide training on various methods and techniques related to molecular-based genetic tests to new laboratory technologists.
Previous experience in conventional molecular genetic procedures including DNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis and real-time PCR (qPCR) is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology or a related field.
Attention to detail and an ability to follow detailed written instructions.
Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to troubleshoot routine issues with molecular diagnostic testing platforms and processes.
Excellent analytical, recordkeeping and organizational skills necessary for working in a clinical laboratory environment.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to keep accurate sample inventory.
Ability to work independently.
Experience with Life Technologies QuantStudio or 7500 real-time systems is a plus.
Preference will be given to candidates with previous clinical molecular diagnostic experience and/or clinical certification (ASCP).
