Personalis Genome Services provides a vertically integrated solution from NGS sequencing to interpretation with a focus on providing superior, highly accurate results to researchers and clinicians. Our services support researchers engaging in large case-control and family-based genome studies of complex or Mendelian diseases and traits, pharmacogenomics, and cancer. Located in Menlo Park, CA, we are seeking an accomplished, talented Senior Director of Bioinformatics with a track record of success developing novel next generation sequencing tools and algorithms in a commercial or large scale academic setting to join our Team.

You love the idea of working together with world experts in a broad variety of domains including sequencing/laboratory platforms, bioinformatics, clinical genetics, pharmacogenomics, and medicine. You thrive in the high energy start-up environment where ideas are rapidly translated into practice and flexibility is critical.

Responsibilities

•   Build and manage a R&D team of bioinformaticians, scientists, engineers and statisticians developing cutting edge tools, databases, and algorithms for improving accuracy of genome sequence alignment, variant calling, and interpretation.
•   Actively participate in developing project plans and providing regular updates against milestones.
•   Work cross-functionally with other members of the R&D team including laboratory, software engineering, IT, and clinical genetics teams to deliver robust research and clinical solutions.
•   Work with the software engineering team to spec, develop, test and deploy informatics software solutions and tools.
•   Work with marketing, sales, and ops teams to enable commercial success including interfacing with thought leaders, external collaborators/customers, presenting at conferences, publishing papers regarding novel bioinformatics approaches.

Requirements: 

Education/Experience

•  PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, or computer science, or related degree.
•   8+ years experience developing new informatics processes, tools for analyzing genetic/genomic data, ideally in a commercial environment.
•   Deep expertise in next generation DNA sequencing data, algorithms, and common platforms.
•   Experience in analyzing, interpreting, and integrating large-scale biological datasets, including genetics, genomics, pathway, and molecular data.
•   Strong algorithms experience for sequencing alignment and variant calling.
•   Strong knowledge of clinical genetics, statistical genetics highly desirable.
•   Experience in database design, development, maintenance, and optimization.
•   Knowledge on a wide variety of genetic, genomic, and biological data in the public repositories.
•   Programming skills and hands on experience with linux systems, scripting and programming languages in Python, Perl, R, Java, C++ MySQL and high performance computing environments.
•   Solid publication record on analyzing NGS human genome data.
•   Demonstrated ability to collaborate with research scientists, software developer, and external collaborators.
