Bioinformatics Research Scientist
Scripps Translational Science Institute, La Jolla, CA
A post-doctoral research position is available at the Scripps Translational Science Institute (www.stsiweb.org) in La Jolla, California. This position is funded by a grant from the NIH (National Human Genome Research Institute). The research in the group is focused on genomic and genetic studies of human disease using high-throughput sequencing technologies. For this purpose, we are developing new computational methods for the detection of DNA sequence variation from whole-genome and exome sequencing datasets.
We are looking for a motivated candidate with a strong background in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or Statistics who is interested in developing and applying new computational methods for the detection of DNA sequence variation (including SNPs and insertions/deletions) from high-throughput sequence data. The candidate is expected to develop and implement new computational methods, evaluate these methods using high-throughput genome sequencing datasets and participate in the writing of manuscripts for publication. Excellent bioinformatics and programming skills are essential. Experience working with high-throughput sequence data is preferred.
Ph.D. with strong background in Computer Science, Statistics or Bioinformatics is preferred. Candidates with training in algorithms/statistics, strong analytical and programming skills, and experience in analyzing high-throughput datasets are also encouraged to apply.
Significant programming experience in at least one of the following languages: C, C++, Java or Python
Experience working in a UNIX/LINUX computing environment and handling large datasets
Familiarity with bioinformatics tools
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
