OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

Are you a JavaScript, HTML5, or D3.js wizard?
Would you like to put those skills to work alongside some of the leading scientific minds in the world, on groundbreaking research with the potential to impact millions of lives? If so, we want you to help create the next-generation of scientific web portals at the Broad Institute. Your work will be initially targeted at the Genotyping and Tissue Expression project (GTEX), but generalizable to other domains, including cancer genomics (The Cancer Genome Atlas, Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia) and medical population genetics.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- Develop, incorporate, and maintain novel web-based visualization tools for biological and genetic datasets, to facilitate exploration, hypothesis generation, and ultimately discovery
- Collaborate on integrating data from scientific pipelines into portals, towards maintaining the highest standards of transparency & provenance
- Collaborate on database design & implementation, to support high-throughput queries & analysis
- Collaborate with computational biologists & geneticists in the Broad and wider research communities
- Collaborate with software engineers on design, development, process & implementation

REQUIREMENTS
- Strong skills in JavaScript and/or related web technologies (HTML, HTML5, D3.js, etc)
- Experience with at least one additional language, such as Python, Java, Perl, MATLAB, R, Unix Shell
- Multidisciplinary inclination: able to collaborate across computer & life sciences, or other domains
- Strong aesthetic sense, combined with demonstrated ability to pragmatically deliver impactful results
- Effective, cross cutting communication skills, with ability to distill meaning from uncertain information
- Able to juggle a variety of complex tasks in fast paced environment, with minimal supervision
- B.S. in Computer Science, biology, hard sciences or other data-driven discipline (M.S./Ph.D. welcome)
- At least 3-5 years experience in software development, preferably in a scientific context
- Strong Plus: publicly accessible portfolio of web portal(s) or visualization tool(s)
- Strong Plus: previous publication experience, especially in data-driven research
