“Disclosing the role of phospholipids as a cell membrane receptor in thrombosis and cancer therapy.”
Phosphatidylserine is normally confined to the cytoplasmic leaflet of the membrane. However, under specific circumstances PS may be exposed at the exoplasmic leaflet of cells activated by a variety of stimuli, cells entering apoptosis, cancer cells and derived microvesicles. Phosphatidylserine thus exposed functions as a template for both calcium-dependent assembly of coagulation proteins or annexin A5, and calcium-independent interactions important in host defence mechanism and cancer therapy. The objective of the project is to disclose mechanism targeting those phosphatidylserine-dependent membrane interactions in normal and tumor cells. Research is focused on cellular and molecular mechanisms leading to membrane targeting and outside-in cell effects on survival applied to anti-tumor activity.
The applicant is a highly motivated, recent Ph D graduate with experience in
- membrane remodelling, phosphatidylserine exposure and microvesiculation
- molecular interactions with membrane receptors
- macromolecular complexes assembly on cell membranes
- blood coagulation
Experimental skills in cell biology, biochemistry including molecular interactions and enzyme kinetics, confocal microscopy, FRET.
PD Fellowships are granted for 24 months and can be renewed for 12 months. Fellowships can last up to 48 months. The Post-Doctorate fellowship includes a monthly stipend and research contingency funds. a) The stipend of the FAPESP post-doctoral fellowship is R$ 5.908,80.( ± USD 2600.00). b) The Research Contingency Funds are intended for use in activities developed by the Fellowship holder, strictly related to the fellowship research project, during the term of the fellowship. The funds are equivalent to 15 per cent of the annual value of the fellowship. Together with the Scientific Report, the Fellowship holder should report on the use of the Research Contingency Funds. This Report should be approved by the Supervisor. The fellowship demands full time dedication to the research project.
c) Installation financial assistance:
Those who need to move to the city where is located the headquarters of the research institution may request the benefit Installation financial assistance, comprising:
- One (1) additional monthly fee to be paid along with the first month of the fellowship;
- Transportation costs, if any displacement by distance exceeding 350 km - see http://www.fapesp.br/en/5427.
