Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home of three Nobel laureates, is an independent, nonprofit research institution dedicated to the development and advancement of biomedical research to eliminate cancer and other potentially fatal diseases. Recognized internationally for its pioneering work in bone-marrow transplantation, the Center's five scientific divisions collaborate to form a unique environment for conducting basic and applied science. The Hutchinson Center, in collaboration with its clinical and research partners, the University of Washington and Seattle Children's, is the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in the Pacific Northwest. A laboratory at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Division of Human Biology, is looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow. The candidate would join the laboratory of Dr. David MacPherson where he/she will use genomic approaches to interrogate new genes implicated in small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC). SCLC is a highly metastatic neuroendocrine lung tumor for which there are currently no effective therapies over the long term.
Our lab has developed new murine models for SCLC and also has a large collection of human patient samples from which we have identified new SCLC-mutated genes. The candidate will use murine lung cancer models along with cell culture systems and human samples to study the function of SCLC-mutated genes. The ideal candidate would be interested both in applying genomics towards understanding the signaling pathways through which SCLC drivers act as well as in performing murine modeling and therapeutic studies using novel murine models.
Candidates will have a recent PhD with a strong background in molecular/cell biology, biochemistry and/or cancer biology. A strong publication record and eligibility to apply for future fellowships is required. Proficiency in bioinformatics and gene targeting and an understanding of murine genetics is ideal.
