Job Description: 

The Product Development Process Manager is responsible for developing, refining, training and mentoring the organization on Illumina’s Innovation Process and governance. You will ensure our product development efforts adhere to the best practices and our documented approach for product development and program and project management. You will manage product development process changes, develop training programs and promote the continuous improvement of project management and product development related processes. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in the deployment of product development processes in the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device and/or life science industries. You must also be an excellent communicator, leader, and strategic thinker with a strong business sense.

Job Responsibilities
• Assess, design, and develop product development process improvement initiatives to achieve organizational goals, collection and analysis, value stream mapping, process capability analysis, financial impact, root-cause identification, Lean principles, transition planning, performance monitoring and operating procedures planning
• Drive implementation of ongoing improvement initiates to improve effectiveness and efficiencies
• Develop best practices for product development process improvements
• Develop and maintain product development process documentation
• Design and deliver product development process training and educational materials
• Continually evaluate and update product development process to meet changing business needs
• Lead or participate in workshops and retrospectives to assess process understanding, discipline and adherence
• Apply appropriate methodology and tools to manage development process improvement projects throughout their lifecycle
• Collaborate with the Corporate Development team to transfer product development process improvement lessons learned to the portfolio management and resource planning processes
• Represent Illumina’s product development process at, and participate in, the Concept to End of Life initiative team


Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree a science or engineering discipline
• 10+ years managing product development process improvement programs in the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device and /or life science industries
• Experience with a variety of product development organizations and methodologies (external consultancy experience desirable)
• 5+ years project or program management of complex systems (Hardware, Software, Consumables, and Reagents) through cross functional program teams
• Proven practical experience applying project management and Lean/ Six Sigma process improvement best practice techniques and tools on large scale projects to deliver significant business results
• Extensive knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Kaizen, Lean), data
• Leadership ability to identify key issues, motivate and empower others to address them in a way which builds morale, generates ownership and commitment
• Strong quantitative and qualitative skills; detail-oriented with ability to see the big picture and to work effectively at both high and detailed levels

Preferred Skills & Experience
• Master’s degree in the life sciences or related field required
• Lean/Six Sigma (Black Belt) Certification
• PMP certification
• Industry experience related to Illumina’s business offerings
