Job Description: 

The Global Marker Technologies group at DuPont Pioneer is seeking a Research Associate to collaborate in the analysis of next-generation sequencing and genotypic data. The successful candidate will contribute to genomic discovery projects by performing computational and statistical analyses, deploying informatics pipelines and supporting a flexible web-accessible platform for custom analysis workflows. The successful candidate must demonstrate expertise in at least one high-level programming language, familiarity with the analysis of large-scale biological datasets (experience with next-generation sequencing data is preferred), and the ability to communicate effectively with computational and molecular biologists. Analyze next-generation sequencing and genotypic data using established computational and statistical methodologies. Evaluate existing and emerging bioinformatics algorithms and integrate publicly available software into existing workflows. Contribute to the development of novel algorithms, computational tools, visualization, and analysis pipelines for next-generation sequencing data. Deploy automated pipelines in a flexible web-accessible platform utilized by non-computational biologists. Support established bioinformatics tools and workflows and coordinate with information management personnel to provide support for the web-accessible platform. Assist molecular biologists in defining user requirements for custom analysis workflows. Collaborate with bioinformaticians in the management and analysis of sequence and genotypic data.

Requirements: 

Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related degree with interdisciplinary training in Genetics, Molecular Biology, or Plant Breeding and 2 to 4 years of hands-on bioinformatics experience is required or equivalent amounts of relevant education and experience. A sound understanding of the principles of DNA sequence analysis and the analysis of large-scale biological data is required. Practical experience with the analysis of next-generation sequencing data and familiarity with common tools and formats is desirable. Demonstrated experience working in a Linux high-performance computing environment is required. Fluency in at least one high-level programming language such as Python (preferred) or Perl is required. The ability to communicate effectively with bioinformaticians and molecular biologists through written reports, presentations, and oral communication is required. Practical experience with object-oriented programming in Java or C , relational database management, and/or web development is desirable. Practical experience with statistical programming using one of R, Matlab, SAS, etc. and an understanding of applied statistical methodology is an asset. An understanding of molecular biology and genetic principles applicable to plant breeding is an asset.
