The successful candidates will report directly to the Biosensor team lead and will work within an interdisciplinary team to further develop QMDx’s nanowire field effect biosensor. The position is based at the QMDx headquarters in Newcastle.

This position will support the development of the biosensor for in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) products in the area of nucleic acid testing. The initial focus of the work will be to further develop QuantuMDx’s novel patented biosensor technology and help integrate our R+D portfolio towards commercial products.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful will be responsible for generating high fidelity data aiding in the development of our nanowire biosensor technologies. The candidate will interact with, and ensure excellent communication with, the other QuantuMDx R&D groups primarily the assay development, chemistry, microfluidics and semiconductor teams.

The candidate will also work as part of a wider global research group, in support of our accelerated time to market for QuantuMDx’s portable molecular diagnostic devices.

It is expected that you will be able and willing to support senior management to ensure the Company’s research is fully compliant with the Quality System Regulations (QSRs) and audit accreditation expectations.

You will help develop, optimise, and qualify test protocols for our point of care diagnostic device.

You must be willing to adhere to all of QuantuMDx’s Quality Assurance (QA) systemes.

Requirements: 

•The candidate should have a background in engineering, applied physics or physical chemistry. He/she will need both practical and theoretical skills and demonstrate relevant experience of following lab protocols including working to health and safety regulations.

•The candidate appointed for this role will be able to demonstrate technical understanding and experience, ideally in biosensor design and use scenario, as well as a proven ability to work with a team of scientists and engineers to accomplish product development goals.

•Previous experience of working in bioengineering, biotechnology or biosensors is essential.

•Excellent time management and organisational skills are required as you will be tasked with research objectives and timelines with strict targets and measures of success.
•You will be expected to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as we move from R&D to commercialisation. As such, it is expected that you can work effectively and co-operatively in a team environment, you must be adaptable and flexible in your approach to work.

•It is expected that you have excellent numeracy skills in addition to written and verbal communication skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft office software packages. Applicants with experience in data mining and computational data analysis / manipulation are encouraged to apply

•Experience in developing technologies for In‐Vitro Diagnostics medical devices is desirable.

•Experience in basic wet chemistry and microfabrication technology would be an advantage.

•A minimum of 2 years laboratory experience gained from either university or industrial exposure is essential.

•Good sense of humour, team player and an ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment as the Company matures and moves from the R&D stage into commercialisation is essential.

•The ability to work full time without restriction in the UK.
