MAIN PURPOSE:
To manage all personnel and manufacturing activities within the Cepheid Lodi Tooling Department.

SUMMARY:
This person will work closely with the PMT [Production Management Team] to identify priorities and schedule new mold build as well as mold maintenance and repair work through the Tooling Department. S/He will be responsible to ensure the high-quality mold manufacturing standards required by Cepheid through training, developing an efficient mold making system, utilizing industry best practices and upholding strict quality standards. S/He will schedule all Tooling personnel, jobs, track progress and report to the PMT in order to meet production requirements. S/He will be responsible for the hiring, training and scheduling of the Tooling Department staff as well as the department budget, equipment recommendations and supply orders.

• Communicates with Cepheid Lodi PMT in order to determine priorities and establish Tooling schedules
• Hire, train, and supervise all Tooling personnel, including administration of performance appraisals and disciplinary measures
• Ensure a clean, safe, hazard free workplace through machine shop safety training and standard
process implementation including 5S
• Troubleshoot mold manufacturing and production tooling problem issues to determine root cause and suggest corrective/preventive actions
• Manage the timelines of equipment and tooling projects to completion
• Responsible for ensuring that all tools are properly maintained and spare components are available, ready to meet production schedule requirements
• Develop and maintain a spare parts inventory for all production molds with full inspection reports to ensure interchangeability
• Develop and/or review and approve all tooling preventive maintenance procedures
• Maintain a Master Tooling List and Schedule for all Cepheid Lodi and related vendor molds including production tool status, capacity and condition including preventive maintenance scheduling
• Assists in coordinating tooling transfers between Vendors and Cepheid Lodi
• Inspects and reports on new molds transferred from Vendors as well as molds built by Cepheid Lodi Tooling
• Reviews DFM reports and advises regarding mold design, manufacturing and production
• Recommends materials, processes and components to be used in mold manufacturing
• Develops cost estimates for new molds, mold repair and engineering change projects
• Weekly status reports of progress in regard to new mold build and existing mold repair and maintenance status to Lodi Site Director and PMT [Production Management Team]
• Supports Lean/Continuous Improvement activities
• Stays up-to-date on current industry trends and technology and looks for ways to utilize them at Cepheid Lodi in order to improve quality and efficiency in mold manufacturing
• Create and/or approve PO requisitions for equipment, materials and services required
• Manage Tooling Department budget for labor, materials and services
• Ensure Tooling support coverage for Molding production during evening and weekend shifts

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Determine staff requirements for Tooing Department [estimate between 20-25 employees]
• Develop job descriptions and requisitions for new personnel
• Interview and hire candidates for all Tooling Department job positions
• Perform performance reviews and determine salary levels
• Employee disciplinary actions

• 8+ years experience Journeyman Plastic Injection Mold Maker with hands-on mold design, manufacturing and troubleshooting experience
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong overall computer skills with hands-on experience using CAD software [Pro/E, SolidWorks, AutoCAD]
• Proficient in use of MS Office, Visio and Project software
• Able to create detailed reports, presentations and documents
• 3-5 years management experience in a technical and/or manufacturing environment
• Manufacturing project management experience
• Proficient at coordinating multiple projects, priorities, and resources simultaneously in a compressed time frame manufacturing environment
• Strong knowledge of injection mold manufacturing and inspection tools and methods
• Working knowledge of high cavitation, tightly tolerance tooling
