Job Description: 

The position of Senior Program Manager provides an exciting opportunity for a mature, highly-motivated individual with strong program management experience and outstanding communication skills. This individual will actively manage the development and execution of strategic and tactical product plans for Genomic Health programs. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate exceptional facilitation, organizational, and influencing skills. This candidate will also have a proven ability to manage a range of complex, high-impact projects simultaneously.

Project Planning
- Works with teams and management to identify business opportunities and/or unmet needs, and then converts these to project plans
- Collaborates with team members to develop detailed strategic project/program plans (scope, milestones, roles & responsibilities, timing, budget, communication and interface with any external alliance or collaborator partner organizations, etc)
- Manages the process for developing program vision, strategy, product valuation, product scope, milestones, risk assessment & management strategies, program investment requirements, as well as specific metrics such as probability of technical success
- Supports Project/Program Team Leaders in preparing Portfolio Governance Committee (PGC) presentations for key, strategic decision-points and considerations regarding assigned program(s)
- Works with department heads to resource project teams, identifying potential resource conflicts and developing tradeoff scenarios to resolve them
- Manages the process for development and updating of Integrated Strategic Plans for the assigned programs, which include the near- and long-term vision and investment direction to maximize each product's lifecycle potential

Project Management
- Creates and maintains project/program timelines; responsible for analyzing the critical path and making appropriate recommendations to resolve issues or actions based on analysis
- Coordinates and facilitates project/program meetings with a structure and agenda that is specifically engineered to ensure successful execution
- Generates and disseminates meeting minutes which accurately capture key decisions, open issues, and action items
- Proactively identifies any issues, concerns or challenges in regards to assigned projects / programs; Develop action plans to address open issues, including escalation to key external stakeholders as necessary
- Follows up on status of task and action item execution both within and outside of meetings and updates project documentation (project timeline, meeting minutes) accordingly
- Conducts proactive risk management: communication of needs, mitigation plans, and requirements relevant to internal/external partners and stakeholders
- Manages development & maintenance of ISPs (Integrated Strategic Plans)
- Demonstrates an ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities, to be flexible with respect to job assignments and both functional and cross-functional responsibilities; specifically, shows active and timely participation in revising/refining assigned projects and responsibilities based on business changes
- Regularly reviews project/program team progress, and uses processes, tools and other related resources to ensure effective team dynamics and decision-making, as well as effective interactions with all internal & external collaborators
- Identifies and recommends opportunities for streamlining or other efficiencies/improvements to his/her manager; implements or assists in implementing any changes or new processes
- Assists in the development of project management tools
- Builds high morale and team commitments to goals and objectives by creating a compelling sense of common purpose and direction

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Proficient with project management principles (e.g., resource allocation, cost estimation, risk analysis)
- Proven track record of advanced skills in managing strategic corporate planning processes
- Proficient with project management applications, including enterprise-wide applications
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven track record of effective decision-making; makes good business decisions and exercises sound judgment
- Strong negotiation skills; can effectively drive discussions and decisions toward desired results
- Strong interpersonal skills; proven ability to develop important relationships with all key internal & external partners/stakeholders

Required EXPERIENCE, education and/or licenses/certifications
- Bachelor's Degree (life sciences discipline is a plus)
- Graduate-level degree in life sciences disciplines, an MBA, or other related field is preferred (PhD in life sciences is a plus)
- A minimum of 12 years' total work experience with at least 8 or more years' relevant work experience in the biotech industry (e.g., research, development, marketing, strategic planning, manufacturing, finance, etc.)
- 4 or more years' specific project management experience in the biotech industry; with at least 2 years' direct project management experience in support of product development project teams
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or equivalent is a plus
