Kaiser Permanente California in San Jose seeks a Bioinformatics Scientist to develop a clinical-grade next generation sequencing pipeline to analyze, report, manage, and store next generation sequencing data. He/she will work with laboratory directors and technicians to identify needs, develop new applications, and design interfaces with 3rd-party softwares. Our state-of-the-art molecular genetics laboratory works closely on a daily basis with the clinical staff and cytogenetics laboratory to provide an integrated service to our patient population. This is a part-time salaried position (20hrs/week.) We offer an excellent salary and benefit package.
Preferred Qualifications for this position include a PhD or MS in bioinformatics, computer science or related field. Knowledge of human genetics, genomics, and molecular biology. Experience in Illumina or SOLID next generation sequencing analysis including alignment, variant calling, and downstream annotating. Experience working with various Next Generation Sequencing software packages, such as SAMtools, GATK, CLCbio. Experience working with public genomic databases (UCSC Genome Bioinformatics Site, NCBI, and Ensembl) and variant annotation databases (dbSNP, 1000 genomes, HDMD, and Genome Trax). Proficient working in Linux/Unix and windows environment. Expertise in Perl, Python, R, SQL, and Basic and in database structures and platforms such as MYSQL. Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and laboratory automation is a plus.
