Job Description: 

The Assistant Director of Molecular Laboratory will be responsible for creating, implementing and managing policies, procedures and practices for optimal performance. They will also be responsible for developing new clinical methods to be implemented in the lab.

Essential Functions
• Assist with developing, recommending approvals, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining laboratory plans, procedures, and policies to ensure the company continually strengthens its competitive edge.
• Assist with maintaining an open communication line with all employees, customers, and vendors, while maintaining proper confidentiality, to ensure proper handling of all laboratory issues that may arise.
• Assist with developing, maintaining and monitoring of all documentation associated with laboratory plans, procedures and policies.
• Assist and advise personnel in special test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of materials.
• Compile and analyze test information to determine operating efficiency of process or equipment and to diagnose malfunctions.
• Adjust formulas and processes based on test results.

• Confer with the Director, scientists and engineers to conduct analyses, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests.
• Remain current on all established rules and regulations published by ABMG, CAP and any other regulatory agency overseeing laboratory accreditation and safety.
• Interpret and assist with final reports.
• Assist with review final approvals of all CAP proficiency testing, self inspection, onsite inspections and competency testing.
• Responsible for maintaining all records and files associated with the technical laboratory.
• Present at lab in-services.
• Recommend new test and help initiate these test into the lab test menu.
• Additional duties as required.

Requirements: 

• Doctoral degree (PhD) in Genetics, Molecular Biology
• Minimum of 5 years of experience; American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) board certified or board eligible

Skills/Abilities Required
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
