A Basic Sciences Division laboratory that studies the properties and maintenance of cellular membranes in nematodes is recruiting a postdoc to carry out an independent research project on the genetic regulation of membrane composition. In order to understand how membrane structure is established and maintained over time, we have implemented stable isotope approaches to quantify various aspects membrane dynamics in C. elegans. Our interest is in developing and executing lipid biochemistry protocols to evaluate the lipid content and dynamics of phospholipids in nematodes of different genetic backgrounds and conditions in order to identify novel regulatory pathways for membranes. The postdoctoral research fellow would be involved in defining his/her own research direction.
Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule:
This full-time research position is available immediately and the salary is based on the NIH pay-scale.
A PhD in a biological science or a related field. Previous experience with C. elegans, stable isotope analysis, lipid biochemistry, and mass spectrometry are all desirable. The applicant should have lab experience that includes designing, performing and interpreting experiments as well as writing manuscripts. Additionally, this position involves working with and supervising junior lab members.
