Job Description: 

Role Summary/Purpose
SeqWright Operations Manager is responsible for leading the laboratory and project management functional teams and reports directly to the GM, SeqWright.

Essential Responsibilities
The SeqWright Operations Manager will work primarily in the following areas:
Lab Operations:
• Supervises the development, implementation, and maintenance of laboratory activities
• Oversees planning and budgeting for up-to-date and cost effective laboratory operations
• Reviews current operational expenditures to streamline and optimize spending
• Builds infrastructure to improve current services and to initiate new services
• Review needs to acquire state-of-the-art instrumentation
• Oversees all laboratory personnel and designs a laboratory organizational structure to support effective operations

Project Management:
• Leads the Project Management team in
• Writing Customer Specific Study Protocols
• Designing and troubleshoot new assays
• Overseeing customer complaint resolutions
• Overseeing logistics for large scale projects
• Reviewing the quality control and performance metrics of data output
• Ensuring all employees have adequate training to cover all areas of the operation
• Reviewing production and data analysis metrics for quality, performance, and efficiency and implement improvement strategies

• Works with Bioinformatics team to assess needs for data analysis tools
• Works with support function management (BD, Marketing, Sales, IT, EHS, QA) to ensure streamlined business plan execution and compliance

Quality Specific Goals:
1. Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position
2. Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines
3. Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required
4. Maintaining full Quality System Regulation and Current Good Manufacturing Practices requirements
5. Maintaining full regulatory compliance and other legal requirements


• PhD in a Genetics, Molecular Biology or related Biotech discipline
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in a Lab Operations/Management role
• Minimum 5 years’ experience streamlining operations (project workload and sample processing), reducing error rates, overseeing operations budgets and implementing cost-saving measures
• Minimum 3 years’ experience with assay development and validation
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Must be willing to work in the Houston, TX facility

Desired Characteristics
• Experience in Molecular biology techniques, such as real-time PCR, Sanger sequencing, molecular cloning, STR/VNTR genotyping, and Next Generation sequencing
• Experience with quality regulations, including FDA, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
• Demonstrated ability to lead, train and develop teams
• Demonstrated ability to identify and implement Best Practices and deal with high levels of ambiguity

• Excellent oral/written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Passion for the life sciences and bringing innovative technologies to market for patient care decisions
