Molecular Sciences Computational Biologist - Principal Scientist

Job Description: 

Amgen's Cambridge, MA department of Molecular Sciences & Computational Biology is looking for a highly motivated Computational Biologist with expertise in handling high-content data sets and a background in genetics. The primary responsibilities would be to support patient stratification, indication selection, and to work with Research on target identification. The job will involve collaborating with biologists to leverage information on our targeted biological pathways and using computational algorithms to mine internal and external genomics, GWAS, next-generation sequencing and other high-content databases. The candidate is expected to interface with the local Bioinformatics community particularly in evaluating new opportunities that advance the discovery and application of genetic biomarkers. By networking with experts and working collaboratively with Amgen scientists, the applicant will integrate acquired knowledge into our biomarker efforts to inform decision-making in drug development. Data integration, management, visualization, analysis and presentation are anticipated to be a substantial component of this job and the candidate is expected to provide leadership and expertise in those domains.


•This position requires a PhD in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Biology or related fields AND at least 5+ years of directly related experience

Preferred requirements include:

• A working knowledge of applied mathematics or statistics to analyze large-scale biological data sets such as those from GWAS or Next-generation sequencing platforms
• Ability to translate biological and medical questions into analytical models providing actionable results
• Programming experience in languages such as Matlab or R
• Enjoys working in collaborative team environment
• Record of establishing and leading lead cross-functional teams
• Five or more years of relevant experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
• A strong scientific background with training in genetics and a proven track record of productivity
• Strong written and oral communication skills, self-motivation, independence and leadership
• Experience understanding the sources of bias arising from DNA based high-content platforms
