Job Description: 

We are looking for a highly skilled and proactive Java software engineer to join the External Services Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBI-EBI) located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.

The incumbent will work in a team of 4 highly motivated programmers who have developed the web search engine for all the EMBL-EBI data resources as well as the bioinformatics analysis framework on top of which many core services run.

Requirements: 

Applicants must hold a degree in Computer Science. A good understanding of object oriented analysis, design concepts and tests is essential, as is good experience with programming using Lucene, Spring and web-related technologies (Web frameworks, JAX-WS, JAX-RS). A background in Maven and Groovy would be beneficial. The candidate must also be comfortable working in a UNIX/Linux environment.

Applicants must be able to show at least 2+ years’ experience of Java development. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as within a team are essential.
