Job Description: 

The candidate will be primarily responsible for: developing and managing websites: bio-databases: and supporting high throughput screening projects for a functional genomics (RNAi Core) facility at the NYU School of Medicine (http://rnainy.med.nyu.edu/),. He/she will provide support to the Genome Technology Center (http://ocs.med.nyu.edu/genome-technology-center) client investigators by ensuring flexible, rapid turn-around data processing, analysis and interpretation related to deep sequencing (NGS) and microarray projects.

Job Description
Duties include monitoring and managing core facility projects, identifying and resolving problems which may impact the project results; working with departmental leadership on developing and implementing data management policies (including LIMS); maintaining research software and hardware; consulting with departmental leadership and other IT teams regarding scientific application alternatives, security, software usage, capacity planning, training, data recovery and backup procedures. Individual should be able to seamlessly interface biology with computational/IT skills and develop new tools and methods. Good communication and analytical skills in interacting with both wet-lab biologists and IT personnel are required

Requirements: 

Requirements
• MS in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics or related area
• A minimum of 2 years of professional programming and/or complex data analysis experience (academia or industry)
• Experience developing bioinformatics applications using languages like Java, Python, Perl; knowledge of SQL and relational databases like Oracle, MySQL, SQLServer is desirable.

This position requires a broad array of technical skills such as the knowledge of web application development, Unix and Windows servers, relational database (RDBMS) management and search engines, statistical analysis tools (MatLab, R, GeneSpring, Ingenuity Pathway Analysis), visualization tools (Spotfire) and the ability to quickly create research-grade programs and scripts. Ability to administer and manage various operating systems like MacOSX, Windows and Linux is expected.
